Ebil’s Tuesday nomination, according to UPC, is a result of the party primaries held in early August of 2022 that produced him as party flag bearer.

Kampala – Sept. 21, 2022: The race for the nine Ugandan politicians to join the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) has gained a steady momentum with the nominations of 28 candidates on Tuesday.
Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), FDC and Democratic Party’s candidates and others were nominated on Tuesday at the Parliament of Uganda.
After a ‘long search’ for a flag bearer, UPC picked its acting Secretary General and former Kole South MP, Fred Ebil Ebil. The former MP contested with eight others in quest to carry the Congress’ flag to Arusha, Tanzania.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday, September 21 at Uganda House, the Congress Headquarters in Kampala, Arach Oyat Sharon, the party spokesperson said Ebil was successfully nominated.
“Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) wishes to inform the general membership and public that Hon. Ebil Fred was, on Tuesday 20th September 2022 successfully nominated by Parliament of Uganda as UPC Candidate for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) elections which will be held on Thursday 29th September, 2022 at Parliament.”
He was presented to the Office of Clerk to Parliament by the Party Assistant Secretary General Mr. Bakkabulindi Ben Kigongo in company of the UPC Party Whip Hon. Santa Ongom, some Members of Parliament (MPs) and Party Headquarters Staff.
According to Arach, the nomination exercise was graced by the UPC Party President Hon. Jimmy Akena who witnessed the successful nomination of Hon. Ebil Fred. This is a result of the party primaries held in early August of 2022 that produced him as party flag bearer.

The party would like to extend a vote of thanks and appreciation to Members of Parliament for standing in solidarity with our EALA Candidate Hon. Ebil Fred during the nomination exercise, the office of UPC Whip for the great work of mobilization and coordination that made us accomplish the first step of nomination, she added..
“In this big task of canvassing for votes (campaign) for our candidate Hon. Ebil Fred that started immediately after the nomination on Tuesday 20th September 2022, we are going to seek cooperation with all political parties in Parliament namely; NRM, DP, FDC, NUP, JEEMA and PPP to deliver our candidate in the spirit of national interest.”
As UPC, she added, “We have been and are at the forefront of championing dialogue, constructive engagements and putting our country, Uganda first.”
The Akena-led party is now requesting all members of the 11th Parliament to support and vote for Hon. Ebil Fred as one of the EALA MPs for 2022- 2027.
“On that note, we wish him best wishes and overwhelming victory!” she concluded.
