Lira – August 9, 2022: Lira city hosted hundreds of those who believe in Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Saturday. In that event, the “Muhoozi army” was launched – with some of his promoters saying he is a standby generator and charismatic.
Muhoozi, son of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni sits on the ‘advisory board’ as senior presidential advisor on security and special operations.
He is also the commander of the land forces, an arm of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces [UPDF].
The 48-year-old has used his ‘national birthday celebrations’ to sell his political and state house agenda, with his supporters backing it. His father, in power since 1986, sources say, is still fit to rule and that he will appear on the ballot come 2026.
President Museveni is now 78 and will be 82 by the time Ugandans go to the general elections.
Within the NRM party that Museveni chairs, sentiments exist, and some say Muhoozi can’t succeed his father. Like Bobi Wine who walks with pride with support from the youth, Muhoozi too has some youth who are backing him.
By comparison, one would say Bobi Wine commands a high percentage of support from Ugandan youth.
In what appears to be a deep penetration strategy for the first son across the country, some Resident District Commissioners and Resident City Commissioners [RDC and RCCs] have taken the lead in preparing and endorsing meeting venues.
Lira city’s RCC is one of the examples of the RCCs and RDCs who have cleared such a meeting, attended it, and made a statement to support the first son’s presidential bid.

Attending the same event on Saturday, Gillian Akullu, the Otuke RDC said we are surrounded by devils. Akullu, who is not new to making news headlines in recent months over rice plantations’ slashing in Otuke told the gathering:
“We have been surrounded by the devils, they even can’t provide solutions to the suffering Ugandans therefore, let us remain on the bus,” as quoted by the Voice of Lango radio.
