Jinja – August 7, 2022: Inspired by a century-old powerful statement attributed to a well-known Ghanaian scholar Dr. James Emmanuel Kwegyir-Aggrey (1875-1927) who often said: “If you educate a man, you educate an individual but when you empower a woman, you empower a nation”, a group of eminent sons and daughters of the Kyabazinga HRH William Wilberforce K Nadiope Gabula IV wants the practical side of the quote.
Under their umbrella organization called Busoga Business Community (BBC) which brings together business enterprises in their associations, forums, and cooperatives, BBC Women’s League has organized a four-day event dubbed, “Presidential Greater Busoga Women Entrepreneurs Conference and Exhibition” that kicks off on 22 August 2022.
According to the lead conveners Gabula DM Kyankone (Executive Director) and Mary Mbabazi Bagalana Bagenda (chairperson of Women’s League), the function takes place at Parvatiben Muljibhai Madhvani(PMM) Girls School, Jinja.

Mary Bagenda says the event is to rejuvenate and motivate the women entrepreneur in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era which had a serious negative impact on families, but women as mothers, most hit.
She says it’s also to encourage business networking among the different business entities and entrepreneurs, well aware that no person is an island in the current internet world which has become a small village.
On his part, the bespectacled Gabula told the media that the conference and exhibition will help build the business capacity of the ordinary entrepreneur for optimal performance.

He says more often, women entrepreneurs are marginalized in many national and regional events hence this event will showcase women’s entrepreneurial talents, skills, and achievements through exhibitions.
The event will be running under the theme, “Revamping Busoga’s Economy, the Role of A woman.” The first of its kind, the event is expected to attract prominent female personalities at national and regional (Busoga) levels.
Participants will be drawn from Jinja district, Jinja City, Kamuli, Buyende, Iganga, Mayuge, Luuka, Bugweri, Namutumba, Kaliro, Bugiri, Namayingo, Kibuku, Pallisa, Buikwe, Kayunga and Buvuma.
