Jinja, August 2, 2022: It was a rare scene as political heavyweights from Busoga who had always been looking for each other’s throats exchanged pleasantries to the excitement of many sending a clear reminder of the long cherished native motto: Busoga Okwisania Na Amani (unity is Atrength).

This was during a prayer meeting under the auspices of the Kyabazinga His Royal Highness (HRH) William Wilberforce K. Nadiope Gabula IV that brought on board politicians and members of the Busoga Consortium.

The prayer week was organized by the Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga (OBB) and Busoga Consortium under the chairmanship of Prof Dr Mohammed Lubega, the First Deputy Prime Minister.

Religious leaders across denominations also graced the occasion that was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere unlike in the past where some politicians would speak briefly and abandon functions.

The ceremony brought together former Speaker of parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga now First Deputy Prime Minister/East African Affairs Minister who for years could not relate very well with former NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba now serving as Minister for General Duties in the Prime Minister’s Office, the FDC Vice chairperson Eastern Region Proscovia Night Salaam Musumba and the third Deputy Prime Minister Hajjat Isanga Nakadama, among others.

The former nemesis were able to bury the hatchets and hugged each other in love and harmony amidst ululations from the invited guests who were overjoyed to witness what they called a breakthrough of peace.

The Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD) is a non-partisan development agency initiated by the region’s local government leadership to mobilize the population and friends of Busoga in and in the diaspora to stimulate and steer the transformation of Busoga.

It was established in 2017 by the then 10 districts that form the traditional Busoga through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with backing from their respective councils.

The Kyabazinga implored the Basoga leaders to be exemplary by being patient and tolerant with one another irrespective of any sectarian affiliation for the sake of the unity of the people under them.

“…whatever action and decision you undertake or commit yourselves to, always be considerate that the resultant effects do not injure the image and interests of Busoga as a whole…” he said.

This was in a prayer message delivered by the Kingdom’s second Deputy Prime Minister (Katukiro) Ahmed Noor Osaman in the weekend function held at Iganga Municipal Primary School.

He congratulated the team upon the reconciliation saying it is a gesture of goodwill and commitment of the key stakeholders to take Busoga to greater heights since unity of purpose is the cornerstone of development.

The Kyabazinga reiterated his commitment to continue offering leadership for the transformation of Busoga and asked the politicians to sustain the renewed peace they have just attained.
