Pader – March 10, 2022: The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU) has donated midwifery kits worth over shs 10 million to Kilak health centre III.
The donation was an initiative of the district Woman MP, Paska Aciro Menya who is also a member of the Union.
The health kits will help in safer deliveries. The health centre received it on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
Alice Alanyo, a senior nursing officer at the facility said they received a blood pressure machine, weighing machine, gloves [sterilized and non-sterilized] headlamp, towels and many more.
She added that sometimes the National Medical Stores run short of equipment like headlamps.
Immaculate Auma, the In-charge of Kilak centre III revealed some challenges they faced due to lack of equipment in the antenatal care unit.
Auma said they would do referrals to other facilities and hospitals like Pajule health centre IV, Kalongo Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Kitgum Government Hospital.
“We were using razor blades for cutting umbilical cords instead of scissors, exposing newborn babies to risk of getting diseases,” she said.
Everline Abalo, a mother in Pader sub-county, appreciated Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union through the Woman MP for the support.
