Coronavirus: UPC asks Ugandans to be patriotic and responsible in virus fight

Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] party has asked Ugandans to be patriotic and responsible in a bid to defeat novel coronavirus [COVID-19] in the country.

UPC party under Lira Municipality MP, Jimmy Akena also extended her appreciation to government for its effective interventions so far.

Akena led party says the internal measures are working and protecting the citizenry, calling on the regime to redouble her efforts now that we are coming to the critical stages of managing this monster.

“The trans-border crisscrossing long journey drivers are causing a major cause of worry since numbers so far registered depicts an increase of externally imported COVID- 19,” UPC party national chairman, Mr Lawrence Okae, says.

“Just yesterday [Thursday] government statistics at Entebbe COVID-19 Management Centre showed (11) eleven new cases; 6 being Kenyans and 5 recorded as Tanzanians! All these are recorded as trans-border truck drivers and these sends a big worry to the country, since our internally detected cases are gradually and increasingly  falling down to the extent that the last weeks were never recording any internal cases!,” Okae adds.

UPC wants government now to consider a thorough check at borders of entry and ensure that only those drivers whose results consistently conforms to international specifications are the only ones allowed to enter the country.

“We also advise that the very kind of strict surveillance that we have developed for internal management of COVID-19 should also apply to all border entries both formal and informal. The Ugandan citizenry is also asked to be vigilant, patriotic and responsible in this fight thus following religiously Ministry of Health guidelines and regulations from time to time,” Mr Okae further advises.

The opposition party has asked people to donate relief food to Musilm across the country.

“The holy month of Ramadan gives us an opportunity to reflect on our spiritual relationship with Allah, seek for forgiveness on our shortcomings and above all love one another! The Holy Month has indeed come at such a time when prayers and sacrifices are most needed for both our mother land and the entire world as we fight against COVID19! So we welcome this Holy Month.”

“UPC appeals to all people of good will to support our Muslim brothers and sisters in this demanding period of fasting for 30 days.”
