Kampala—July 28, 2020: In a quest to keep his UPC party presidency for the next five years, Jimmy Akena Obote is few steps away from getting it done.
Akena—who’s also the Lira Municipality MP, was announced unopposed by the party’s electoral commission chairman, Hajji Kazimbiraibe Mahmoud, last month.
Three of his fellow aspirants, according to the electoral commission chair, could not comply with the electoral requirements of the party.
Among these aspirants were Mr Tom Omino, Mr Enap Denis Adim, and Ms Beatrice Amaro, who had picked the nomination forms but didn’t pay the mandatory shs20m.
