Within two days, three locals die by suicide – Police

Three people have committed suicide in Acholi sub-region between Sunday 4, and Monday 5, November, 2018, as according to police.

Joe Komakech, 23, a resident of Boo Goya in Gem sub-county, Lamwo district was found dead hanging on a rope. Reports say the deceased was having too much pressure from his parents to marry a wife.

He was found dead by a member of the community few meters away from their home.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa regional police spokesman confirmed the tragedy and stated that Komakech committed suicide.

Okema adds that the deceased parent strongly demanded that he should marry a wife because he was old enough, at 23.

“We got the information today about the incident and we found out from the relatives that Komakech decided to kill himself after his parent said he should marry a wife since he was old,” Okema said.

He said police in the area visited the scene of crime and picked the body, handing it to the family for burial.

The second incident, by suicide also involved one Pascalina Lamunu, 60, a resident of Kitgum matidi in Kitgum district. She was found dead while swinging on a rope by an area resident.

According to the regional police spokesman, police registered a case of missing person in Lamunu in September and since then she never appeared anywhere not until she was discovered dead on 5, Monday.

He said the deceased is suspected to have committed suicide on Sunday, adding that investigation is underway to find out the cause of her death.

The third death, according to Police was on Sunday on Albino Ojok, a resident of Lukoto village in Odek sub-county in Omoro district.

Mr Ojok is said to have committed suicide after his wife refused to give him money for drinking alcohol.
