17 youth groups receive over shs.150m youth funds

In Mbale Municipality, 17 youth groups have received over shillings 150 million under Youth Livelihood Program. The said fund is currently in their bank accounts.

Angela Neumbe – the Community Development Officer [CDO] Mbale Municipality confirmed this, noting that they have disbursed shillings 154,500,000 million.

Shortly after meeting with the youth groups at municipal chamber, Neumbe told the press that the groups should put the money into applied projects.

This, she said will help avoid previous scenarios where most youth groups failed to pay back the money, with many assuming that it was a ‘presidential handshake’.

Neumbe further says they are ready for the second phase. “As council, we are going to go to the grounds to visit these groups,” she added.

She now appeals to Mbale municipal council authorities to exempt new youth groups from paying trading license.

The CDO noted that such groups are beginners and the money they are using to implement the projects is a loan.
