At least two Kaweesi’s killers are at large – President Museveni

STATE HOUSE – ENTEBBE: President Museveni has revealed that at least two assailants who murdered former Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi are yet to be arrested.

Kaweesi was gunned down alongside his driver and bodyguard in February 2017 in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb.

Addressing the nation on Saturday night [ongoing] on the current state of security in the country, Mr Museveni said whereas killers of the former police spokesperson are in jail, at least two are yet to be arrested.

“At least two of Kaweesi killers are outside. The Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP] must gather enough evidence,” he reiterates.

On rampant crimes in Uganda, Museveni said even in developed countries like United States of America, there is a high crime rate.

Basing on Gun Violence Archives, Museveni noted that in 2016 17,250 people were killed, 15,539 in 2017 and 2018 have also seen 10,129 being killed.

“Therefore, killings happen even in developed countries,” he added.

“Because of better technologies – Cameras, the doers of these are quickly known. Even in those developed countries, the search for those criminals takes time,” he noted.

Like he has always said in previous speeches, Museveni added that finger printing all guns in the country and registering all motorbike [piki-piki] to have all electronic number plates for easy detection, will be conducted.

Another measure he says is banning wearing of hoods clothes by boda-boda riders.

“Like those who killed Kirumura had covered their heads,” Museveni told the nation on Saturday.

He called on private citizens who are able should continue to install cameras in their homes and at their business premises to prevent crimes.

“In the next nine months from now, Kampala will be a new city; safe, cleaner and smarter. We can now scale down on the technical intelligence,” he promised.
