A one and a half year old baby has been found dumped inside a lagoon near Forest ward, Laroo division in Gulu Municipality by her mother.
The mother of a rescued child, identified as Ruth Lakarober, 18, is currently on the run.
She was a resident of Holy Rosary sub-ward in Queen Avenue, Laroo division in Gulu Municipality.
Florence Faith Lagum, a local musician in Gulu also an elder sister to Lakarober told TND News that the child was found and rescued by neighbors on Thursday midnight.
She added that the infant, rescued with injuries (burns) on her left arm was crying endlessly, prompting the neighbors to search.
Lagum who is also blind is appealing for support from well wisher to support the minor, saying she can hardly afford to provide basic needs to the child given her disability status.
She notes that she reported the case to the Gulu main market police outpost for investigation and search into her younger sister’s whereabouts.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa region police spokesperson advised Lagum to hand over the child to the Child and Family Protection Unit of the Police at the regional police headquarters for better management.
Okema said the police works with partners like Watoto, Save the Children among other organizations that help take care of the minor.
“This is the first incident of a child being abandoned by a mother in Laroo division Gulu Municipality,” Okema revealed.
