One killed, 8 detained for murder over land

The long term land confrontations in the northern Uganda district of Nwoya is far from ending.

On Monday, one person, a resident of Obira ‘A’ village, Obira parish in Got Apwoyo Sub-county in Nwoya district was brutally killed over a piece of land.

The death emerged after some locals claimed ownership of the land in which the deceased was found gardening.

According to an eye witness, the deceased only identified as John was attacked at around 10am by seven people from Obira ‘A’ village.

The suspected killers were soon arrested by the Police Fyling Sqaud in Nwoya district.

By press time on Tuesday, the eight suspects were still under police custody at Anaka Central Police Station and Pakwach Central Police Station (CPSs) respectively.

The suspect at Pakwach CPS has been charged with aggravated murder under CRB: 270/2018.

Recently, Gulu High Court ordered that hundreds of inhabitants who were living on the land be evicted. Some defied the Court ruling and hanged on.
