“They want me dead!” Mpigi expressway whistleblower Simon Tamale fears for his life after exposing alleged land compensation mafia

Simon Tamale, a resident of Mpigi who exposed alleged irregularities involving land acquired along the planned Mpigi Expressway route, says he is now living in fear following what he describes as threats to his life.

Tamale reportedly raised concerns about individuals he accused of purchasing land along the proposed expressway corridor in anticipation of receiving compensation from the government.

His allegations pointed to possible dealings involving people within the Ministry of Lands and the Ministry of Works.

According to Tamale, his decision to speak out has angered individuals who were allegedly expecting to benefit from a compensation deal worth billions of shillings.

He claims some of them now blame him for disrupting their plans.

The whistleblower says the situation has left him worried about his personal safety, as those unhappy with his revelations are allegedly threatening him.

He fears that the people behind the suspected dealings could take action against him because he exposed the matter.

Tamale has since appealed to State Minister for Works Fred Byamukama, asking him to intervene and ensure his safety. He wants the minister to take his concerns seriously and help address the threats he says he is facing.

His concerns have brought renewed attention to the planned Mpigi Expressway project and the importance of transparency in land acquisition and compensation processes.

Such projects involve substantial public resources, making proper verification of land ownership and compensation claims essential.

The allegations also raise questions about whether some individuals may have attempted to take advantage of the planned road project by acquiring land in areas expected to be affected by the construction.

However, the claims would need to be investigated and independently established.

Tamale’s appeal now places the spotlight on the relevant authorities to examine his allegations, investigate the reported threats and protect anyone who provides information about suspected corruption involving public projects.
