Ugandan media personality Flavia Tumusiime has shared a personal lesson from motherhood, revealing how she moved away from the pressure to be a perfect mother and learned to appreciate the simple moments she shares with her children.

Speaking on her YouTube channel, Flavia explained that her greatest measure of success is the relationship she has built with her children. For her, being able to sit with them, talk freely and enjoy time together means more than meeting strict parenting expectations.

“The evidence of my success is the fact that my kids and I sit on the same table and we talk. And I don’t feel the pressure to be a perfect Mom,” she said.

Flavia revealed that her approach to motherhood has changed with time. She previously believed that being a good mother required careful planning, strict routines and staying organised at all times.

She explained that she once associated perfect parenting with following specific systems and doing things in a particular way. This made even ordinary moments with her children feel like activities that needed to be planned and managed.

However, she has gradually embraced a more relaxed approach, allowing herself to enjoy family life without constantly worrying about whether she is doing everything correctly.

Flavia said she now values being able to listen to her children, play with them, joke around and share meals. These simple experiences have become important signs of success in her journey as a mother.

“I know that might sound like nothing to you, but there’s a moment there where talking to my kids meant templates, be organized, be routined… because these are the things that make me a good mom, a perfect mom,” she explained.

“But now I have reduced it to the fact that I can listen to them, we can play, we can joke, we can share a meal.” Flavia is married to sports journalist Andrew Kabuura, and they have three sons. Their firstborn, Liam Ahabwe Kabuura, was born on April 10, 2020, while their twin sons, Enzo Kakuru Kabuura and Ethan Kato Kabuura, were born on May 19, 2023.
