The former X account of Anita Among, which once carried her name and posts while she served as Speaker of Parliament, has reportedly been taken over by journalist Remmy Bahati’s news start-up, Global Africa Brief.

According to a report by Ankole Times, the change happened over the weekend, with the account formerly known as @AnitahAmong rebranded as @GlobalAfricaHQ. Its display name has also changed to Global Africa Brief, while its biography now reads, “The Brief Beyond Headlines.”

Despite the change in ownership or control, the account reportedly retains about 614,000 followers, the same number it had when it was associated with Among. Her previous posts have been deleted, leaving the account with a new identity and a different purpose.

Bahati, a former NBS TV reporter, has publicly identified herself as the founder of Global Africa Brief. The organisation describes itself as a pan-African news service covering issues such as African economies, health and politics.

In a post shared in September following a dinner hosted by United States President Donald Trump for African leaders during the United Nations General Assembly, Bahati said she was proud to engage with African leaders as she continued building Global Africa Brief.

The development has attracted attention because Among remains the Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District, despite a series of political and legal developments that reportedly followed her departure from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament. The report says she was instructed to withdraw from the contest in May and has yet to physically return to Parliament.

The report also notes that Bahati has become a vocal critic of the Ugandan government since moving to the United States. She has previously spoken out about security incidents involving her family and exchanged criticism with Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on social media. However, there is no confirmed evidence that Among personally sold the account to Bahati or that the two reached a financial agreement. How the account changed hands remains unclear, making it important to distinguish the confirmed rebranding from speculation about the circumstances behind it.
