Vincent Arnold Nsamba, the man arrested in connection with the death of veteran musician Moses Matovu, has given his account of what happened during the confrontation that left the Afrigo Band leader fatally injured.

Nsamba was arrested in Nansana hours after Matovu died at Kibuli Hospital on September 24, 2026. Police identified him as a prime suspect as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death continued.

According to Nsamba’s account, Matovu appeared to him to be “a bit drunk and weak” during the confrontation. He claimed that Matovu became involved in the incident while attempting to protect Rose Tusiime.

Nsamba said Matovu eventually lost his balance and fell near his vehicle. He claimed that the veteran musician appeared to hit his head when he fell, after which he noticed blood coming from his head.

“When he fell on the ground, maybe something hit him on the head because immediately, blood started gushing out of his head and I thought he had died,” Nsamba reportedly said.

The suspect said he became frightened after seeing Matovu bleeding and decided to leave the scene. He said he went to his home in Nansana, where he remained before his eventual arrest by police.

Police investigations indicate that Matovu had been in Kibuli early that morning with Tusiime when they encountered Nsamba, who police said had previously been in a relationship with her. A physical confrontation reportedly followed, leaving Matovu seriously injured.
