Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has advised women against rejecting men simply because they are struggling financially, saying some deserve an opportunity to prove themselves and build a future with their partners. She believes that a man’s current financial situation should not be the only factor considered when choosing a relationship.

Zari explained that society often encourages women to look for financially stable men who can provide comfortable lifestyles, expensive gifts and other material benefits. However, she believes this approach can cause some women to overlook men who may have the potential to succeed in the future.

Drawing from her personal experiences, the businesswoman pointed to her relationship with the late businessman Ivan Semwanga as an example of how a couple can build a life together. She suggested that relationships do not always have to begin when both partners have already achieved financial success.

“Sometimes you’re not going to find that guy. Sometimes you’re going to find your person and build. And that’s what I did with Semwanga,” Zari said, reflecting on the journey she shared with the late businessman.

She further urged women not to look down on men who are experiencing financial difficulties, arguing that having little money does not automatically make someone a bad partner. According to her, some men may have good intentions, ambition and qualities that deserve consideration.

“Don’t look down on broke men. They are people; some of them are worthy of the time. Give them a chance,” she added, encouraging women to consider more than a man’s current bank balance when assessing his suitability for a relationship.

Zari’s remarks have brought attention to the debate over money, love and expectations in modern relationships. While financial stability can help couples manage responsibilities and reduce stress, a person’s character, respect, honesty and willingness to work towards shared goals are also important considerations.

Her message is that nobody knows what tomorrow holds, and a person who is struggling today may achieve success in the future. However, giving someone a chance does not mean ignoring red flags or accepting mistreatment; a healthy relationship requires mutual respect, effort and shared responsibility from both partners.
