Disbelief! Kabanda Points Finger at Sabiti in Anita Among’s X Account Mystery as Questions Emerge Over Its Rebranding

Kampala Central MP Daudi Kabanda has raised questions about the role of former NBS TV journalist Joseph Sabiti in the controversial rebranding of Anita Among’s former X account into a news platform known as Global Africa Brief. Kabanda’s remarks have added a new twist to the discussion surrounding the account, which previously operated under Among’s name when she was Speaker of Parliament. However, there is no publicly established evidence confirming that the account was sold.

Kabanda questioned Sabiti’s possible involvement after a report by Bbeg Media linked the rebranded account to journalist Remmy Bahati’s news venture. Responding to the report on X, the legislator wondered whether Sabiti, who previously managed Among’s communications, could have transferred the account to a former colleague at NBS TV. His comments have drawn attention to the people who may have been involved in the account’s change of identity.

“I understand Joseph Sabiiti was the one operating this account. Could it be that he sold it to his former colleague at NBS?” Kabanda wrote. His statement raised the possibility of a sale but did not provide evidence that money changed hands or that any transaction took place. The circumstances surrounding the account’s rebranding therefore remain unclear.

Sabiti, a former NBS TV reporter, previously served as Among’s principal press secretary. His past role in managing communications for the former Speaker has made him a subject of interest following the account’s transformation. However, Kabanda’s question alone does not establish that Sabiti sold, transferred or otherwise arranged the change of ownership of the account.

According to Bbeg Media, the account formerly known as @AnitahAmong changed its handle to @GlobalAfricaHQ over the weekend. It now carries the name Global Africa Brief and reportedly retains about 614,000 followers. The account’s previous posts have disappeared, while its biography now reads, “The Brief Beyond Headlines.” The changes have transformed a platform associated with a senior Ugandan political figure into an account presenting itself as a pan-African news outlet.

The rebranding has attracted attention because the account already had a large following built while it operated under Among’s name. Such an audience can provide a new media platform with immediate visibility and access to readers who might otherwise take time to attract. However, the available information does not establish who authorised the changes, whether Among consented to them or whether the account was transferred through a formal agreement.

Bbeg Media linked Global Africa Brief to Remmy Bahati, a former NBS TV journalist who has publicly discussed her involvement in building the venture. In a September post concerning a dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump for heads of state during the United Nations General Assembly, Bahati spoke about engaging African leaders as the team continued building Global Africa Brief. The platform describes itself as a pan-African news service publishing updates on African economies, health and politics. Nevertheless, Bahati’s association with the venture does not prove that she purchased Among’s former account.

The issue has also raised questions about the fate of Among’s previous political communications and the circumstances behind the account’s transformation. Among remains the Bukedea Woman MP after leaving the speakership at the end of the 11th Parliament, while Kabanda’s remarks have intensified speculation about the account’s history. No publicly established evidence confirms a sale, an unauthorised takeover or a negotiated transfer, and the available report does not include a detailed explanation from the people involved. Until further information emerges, the question of who authorised the rebranding and how control of the account changed hands remains unresolved.
