CHEWs

The Ministry of Health on Monday witnessed the commissioning of 134 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) in Buikwe district.

Dr Ayume Charles, Minister of State for Health, Primary Health Care, challenged the new CHEWs to contribute to cancer prevention by addressing key risk factors, including alcoholism and drug abuse.

Director General Health Services, Prof. Olaro Charles, urged CHEWs to identify and report unexplained community deaths, emphasising the importance of mortality audits in enabling early response and strengthening community health.

At the same event, Commissioner for Health Promotion, Education and Communication, Dr. Richard Kabanda, reminded the CHEWs that their new roles come with responsibility.

He urged them to properly care for and use the equipment handed over to the district while upholding the standards expected of civil servants.

Each CHEW is entitled to a new bicycle for office duty.
