Rest in peace!! Pedestrian killed on Kampala-Entebbe expressway near sharp bend

Kampala

A pedestrian has been killed in a tragic accident along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway near a sharp bend, raising fresh concerns about road safety and the dangers faced by people who walk along major highways.

The fatal crash happened at KM 3 on the Kajjansi–Busega section of the expressway, according to authorities managing the road.

The incident caused concern among motorists and residents in the area, with emergency teams responding quickly to manage the scene and restore normal traffic flow.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pedestrian as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.

Officials said the accident highlights the dangers of pedestrians accessing controlled highways and urged members of the public to avoid walking along the expressway.

Expressway managers warned residents against cutting through fences, using unofficial paths or attempting to cross the road at undesignated points.

They encouraged pedestrians to use approved crossing areas designed to protect lives and reduce accidents along the busy route.

The Kampala-Entebbe Expressway is one of Uganda’s busiest roads, carrying thousands of vehicles daily, including private cars, commercial vehicles and public transport operators.

Officials said the high speeds permitted on the expressway make it extremely dangerous for pedestrians who enter the roadway unexpectedly.

The warning comes amid continued concerns about road safety in Uganda, where accidents remain a major cause of deaths and injuries.

Authorities have pointed to reckless driving, speeding, poor pedestrian behavior and failure to follow traffic regulations as some of the factors contributing to road crashes.

The latest accident adds to wider concerns following reports that Uganda recorded thousands of road deaths in 2025, with calls growing for stronger enforcement of traffic laws.

Road safety advocates have repeatedly urged authorities to increase speed monitoring, improve pedestrian infrastructure and promote public awareness campaigns.

They argue that preventing road deaths requires cooperation between drivers, pedestrians, government agencies and communities.

Following the crash, emergency responders and police officers arrived at the scene to secure the area and handle the aftermath.

Multiple incidents reported along the expressway that evening affected traffic movement, with authorities working to clear debris and ensure motorists could continue safely.

The damaged vehicle involved in the incidents required attention from emergency teams as investigations and recovery operations continued.

Police are expected to establish the exact cause of the crash and determine whether any factors such as speeding, visibility or pedestrian access contributed to the tragedy.

Authorities have continued to remind road users that highways are not safe walking routes and that all users must follow designated safety measures.

The death of the pedestrian has renewed calls for communities living near major roads to avoid risky shortcuts and use proper crossing facilities.

As investigations continue, road safety officials are urging both motorists and pedestrians to exercise greater caution in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
