Gulu City Council staff have been urged to exhibit the highest standards of customer care and professionalism in the offices and service points where they serve members of the public.
The call was made by the city town clerk, Innocent Ahimbisibwe, during a general staff meeting held today at the Mayor’s Garden at Gulu City headquarters.
Ahimbisibwe said the city leadership is committed to improving customer care and ensuring that residents receive timely, efficient and respectful services.
He noted that the city will be guided by an updated client charter, which will clearly outline service standards, including the expected time for staff to deliver different services to clients.
“We need to ensure that every client who comes to our offices receives the service they deserve, regardless of the department or office they visit,” he said.
The town clerk further revealed that the city has recruited a Customer Care Officer and is in the process of recruiting a Principal Customer Care Officer to strengthen the customer care function.
He urged all staff to complement the work of the customer care unit by becoming customer care agents at their respective points of service and ensuring that clients are treated with courtesy, respect and professionalism.
Meanwhile, Gulu City Council Mayor, Julius Acire Labeja, commended staff for their commitment and dedication to serving the city.
The mayor acknowledged that many staff members continue to undertake important work that may not always be recognised or appreciated by the public.

He encouraged them not to lose hope but to remain committed to their responsibilities and continue serving with dedication.
Labeja challenged staff to work collectively to change the negative perception that some members of the public have about local government institutions by demonstrating professionalism, responsiveness and a strong commitment to service delivery.
The Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Ambrose Onoria, who was the chief guest, reminded staff that choosing to become public servants comes with a responsibility to serve the public.
Onoria encouraged staff to embrace their role as public servants by being available, responsive and committed to meeting the needs of the people they serve.
He emphasised that public service requires not only accepting the title of being a public servant, but also accepting the responsibility to serve the public diligently and professionally.

The general staff meeting brought together Gulu City staff to reflect on service delivery, staff responsibilities and the need to strengthen the relationship between the city and the public it serves.
