Amolatar receives vehicle from MAAIF to promote UCMAT project

The Amolatar district’s production department officially received a vehicle from MAIIF on Monday, July 6, 2026, to mobilise farmers and promote the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project.

During the handover ceremony, Assistant RDC Sarah Tyan praised MAIIF for its significant support in monitoring the climate-smart project.

“This vehicle represents more than just transportation; it is a vital asset that will enhance our ability to implement and monitor climate-smart agricultural initiatives across Amolatar,” Tyan said.

“We appreciate MAIIF’s commitment, which strengthens our efforts to assist farmers in adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Amolatar, Rhoda Oroma, raised concerns with the mechanical officer about the frequent breakdowns of district vehicles.

She pledged to investigate the matter to ensure the officer responsible is competent.

“We cannot afford continuous disruptions caused by vehicle malfunctions. I will ensure that the mechanical officer meets the required standards of competence so that such issues are minimised going forward,” Oroma stated firmly.

She also promised to safeguard the new vehicle provided to the production department to guarantee its effective use and proper maintenance.

“Our priority is to maintain this vehicle in excellent working condition. It must be properly utilised to support ongoing climate-smart agriculture activities, thereby maximising the impact of this generous donation,” she added.

The district chairperson, Ogwal Moris, expressed confidence that the new vehicle would significantly aid the department in promoting the climate-smart agricultural transformation project.

“This asset is crucial in enhancing outreach and monitoring. I am confident it will propel our efforts to empower farmers and encourage sustainable agricultural practices in the district,” Morris remarked.

Francis Ojok, also known as Abu Joker, the Production Officer, expressed gratitude to MAIIF for their continued support and noted that motorcycles are expected to arrive soon to further aid project monitoring.

“We thank MAIIF for this invaluable contribution. The upcoming motorcycles will complement the vehicle and make our monitoring activities even more efficient,” said Abu Joker.

He also shared that the production department has faced challenges in mobility for a long time, but with the new vehicle, monitoring efforts will be greatly enhanced.

“The lack of reliable transport has been a major hurdle. This vehicle will change that, enabling us to reach more farmers and provide timely support to mitigate climate impacts,” he added.

Dulson Okello, the focal point person for the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project in Amolatar and acting principal entomologist, mentioned that the vehicle is equipped with a tracking device designed to monitor its intended use.

“We have installed a tracking system to ensure transparency and accountability in how the vehicle is used, guaranteeing it serves the project’s goals effectively,” explained Okello.

To date, four farmers’ groups have benefited from the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project in Amolatar, with a total of 173 groups already registered under the initiative.

This is a signal of the growing momentum toward sustainable agriculture in the district.
