Kwania | The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MoGLSD) conducted a training session for women entrepreneurs in Kwania district and witnessed the election of women leaders who will represent Kwania district under the Association of Kwania District Women Entrepreneurs.
These elected women will bridge the gap in implementing the GROW project across 11 sub-counties and town councils in Kwania.
The event was organised by the Northern Uganda Women in Business (NUWEBIZ) in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
Participants were selected and trained in financial literacy, grant access, and the correct procedures for securing and utilising GROW project funds.
Bina Santo, an official working with Northern Uganda Women in Business, stated that they are currently operating in five sub-regions: Lango, Acholi, Karamoja, and West Nile.
In these areas, they are training and guiding women on how to choose leaders who will assist them in linking various programs to their existing businesses. This initiative will kick off with the GROW project, which provides loans to be repaid at a 10% interest rate.
Betty Ohuruh Ogwang, the new chairperson of Kwania District Women Entrepreneurs, urged husbands to stand by their wives and offer them good advice regarding business management.
This advice, she said, is crucial as they prepare to receive financial grants under the GROW project, through which Kwania district is set to distribute shs150 million to the beneficiaries.
Rosolin Owanga, a member of Kwania District Women Entrepreneurs representing Atongtidi and Chawente sub-counties, noted that the training will help them transform their businesses.
She added that they will make every effort to ensure the government funds received are put to the right use, strictly following the established guidelines.
Moses Opio, the focal point person for the GROW in Kwania district, spoke during the closing of the meeting at the Kwania district headquarters. He urged the women’s association to ensure they mobilise their fellow women.
He emphasised that women at all levels must feel free to engage with the district on various programs, noting that women’s leadership selection must start from the grassroots up to the top.
