Kikuube district Ebola disease task force has suspended key public gathering points including markets following confirmed Ebola in the district.
The district’s response to swift action follows the Ministry of Health’s report alerting the district to the Ebola outbreak status. The country’s total confirmed cases are now five.
The Ministry of Health’s report was shared by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kikuube, Godwin Angalia Kasigwa, indicating that the confirmed patient is a taxi driver from Kasonga.
He recently drove the first Ebola patient from DRC.
The same report also indicates that over thirty contact persons including the relatives of the newly confirmed patient in the district are being traced.
It is out of this background that the district Ebola disease taskforce together with the security put tight restrictions suspending public marketplaces and other big public gathering points.
Kyangwali sub-county is highly affected, according to RDC Angalia.
Other restrictions include blocking illegal immigration from the DRC through the district’s porous borders.
“We are also going to put in place Ebola disease isolation centres in Sebagoro and Kasonga landing sites and at Kikuube General Hospital,” said the RDC.
Meanwhile, the stakeholders continue to advocate for standard operating procedures including frequent hand washing, avoiding body contact with suspected Ebola disease patients, among others.
