An Atigolwok Primary School teacher in Ibuje sub-county, Apac district, is on the run following an operation in which a deadly SAR rifle in good working condition was recovered from his home.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, confirmed that the operation occurred on April 29, 2026, at 4pm.
A team of intelligence officers, comprising the Deputy DISO of Apac District and Crime Intelligence personnel, conducted an operation in Amia Amola village, Alworoceng Parish, Ibuje sub-county, Apac.
During the operation, a SAR rifle in good working condition, but without ammunition, was recovered.
SP Okema added that the firearm was recovered from the residence of Auna Moses, 56.
Preliminary findings indicate that the firearm was illegally possessed by the suspect. Auna Moses has reportedly been on the run since January 2026 following the murder of Otim Moses, alias Ebong Francis, on January 1, 2026—an act allegedly committed by his brother, Oume Saidi, who was later killed by a mob on January 15, 2026.
Community members allege that Auna Moses incited his brother to commit the said murder and has been using the firearm to threaten community members, as well as engaging in poaching activities alongside the late Oume Saidi.
The PRO said additional reports indicate Auna recently returned to his home in Alworoceng and became aware that he was still wanted by police in connection with illegal possession of the firearm.
On April 28, 2026, he reportedly presented himself to the RDC of Apac in the company of his brother, Ekwang Silvesto, a teacher at Alado Primary School in Ibuje sub-county.
He expressed his intention to hand over the firearm, claiming he had inherited it from his late brother, only identified as Okulla Dede.
After recording their details, the RDC allowed them to return home.
On April 29, 2026, the intelligence team proceeded to the suspect’s residence to apprehend him and recover the firearm.
However, the suspect had fled, leaving the firearm behind. The weapon was subsequently handed over to police by his relatives.
The recovered firearm is unmarked, has no ammunition, but was found well-maintained. It is currently in safe custody at Apac Central Police Station, according to SP Okema.
“No suspect has been arrested in connection with this matter. Efforts to trace and apprehend Auna Moses are ongoing,” he added.
