Dokolo | The district probation officer (DPO) of Dokolo has cautioned financial services providers to refrain from abusing the rights of individuals.

Speaking to tndNews, Uganda on Thursday evening, DPO Peter Okello cautioned ASA financial services and other financial services providers who are transacting loans to locals.

He issued the warning after ASA detained a woman with her 1-year-old baby and another five women from the Ilong saving group.

These women, whose identities have been revealed, spent four days without providing basic needs.

Okello said the management of ASA financial services will be followed by legal procedures.

Babra Akech, the Resident District Commissioner for Dokolo confirmed the matter and added that police would thoroughly investigate the incident.

Christopher Olobo, LC1 chairperson of Acengryeng cell, Central ward, Dokolo town council, when contacted, said ASA financial services illegally entered his jurisdiction without any notification.

Harriet Angom, chairperson of the Ilong saving group said they are demanding a refund of shs767,000 from ASA financial services.

She explained that after receiving their money, the management told them that their group had been blocked without their notification.

Jane Adongo, mother of the 1-year-old baby, said she suffered without any food or water even though she is sick.

She made an alarm to human rights activists to support her legally.

Some of the Ilong saving group members who spoke to our reporter expressed their disappointment at how the ASA financial services disappointed them by chopping their money and blocking their group name from the system.

Attempts to get comments from the manager of the financial institution were in vain by the press time.
