Organizers say Gen. Saleh’s expected attendance highlights the growing recognition of the creative industry as a viable driver of youth employment, peacebuilding, and regional integration.
“This anniversary is not just a celebration of art, but of unity, resilience, and opportunity. Gen. Saleh’s presence affirms the importance of investing in the creative economy,” Aboda Solomon, Chairperson, WALK said.
The event will showcase music, dance, spoken word, visual arts, fashion, and cultural performances representing the diverse identities of West Nile, Acholi, Lango, and Karamoja.
He further noted that it will also provide a platforIm for dialogue between artists, policymakers, and development partners on strengthening the creative sector.
Local leaders in Gulu City have welcomed the initiative, noting that such regional collaborations help position the city as a cultural and creative hub in Northern Uganda.
Security and logistical preparations are underway, with thousands of artists, fans, and stakeholders expected to attend. Organizers have called on creatives and the general public to usher in the New Year by supporting local talent and celebrating cultural diversity.
WALK Creative Artists was established to connect creatives across regions, amplify their voices, and turn talent into sustainable livelihoods. The first anniversary is expected to mark a new chapter of growth, collaboration, and regional pride.
The celebrations will take place in Gulu City on 1st January 2026, with the official venue and program to be announced in the coming weeks.
