Aloyotoo Agnes vows annual sponsorship for 65 learners in bold Lamwo education plan

Lamwo | Aloyotoo Agnes, aspiring Member of Parliament for Lamwo County, has pledged to sponsor at least 65 learners every academic year if elected in the 2026 general elections.

The initiative, which she says will run throughout her 2026–2031 parliamentary term, is aimed at boosting access to education for vulnerable children across the constituency.

Speaking to residents of Madi Opei sub-county, Aloyotoo said the programme is intended to ease the financial strain faced by struggling households and ensure equal learning opportunities for all children.

She noted that the sponsorship will focus on disadvantaged but academically promising learners, covering full tuition fees and essential scholastic materials.

“Every academic year, at least five students from each sub-county in Lamwo County will receive fully sponsored education,” she said.

Adding that, “this programme will run consistently throughout my five-year term because our children deserve uninterrupted access to learning opportunities.”

Aloyotoo described education as a central pillar of her development agenda, calling it a transformative tool for building human capital, empowering households, and shaping the future generation.

She added that the selection of beneficiaries will be conducted transparently, with the involvement of village leaders, school administrators, and community representatives.

According to her, priority will be given to orphans, vulnerable children, and learners from low-income families who often face the risk of dropping out due to financial constraints.

John Opio, a resident of Okol parish in Madi Opei sub-county, said the initiative would significantly relieve families struggling to keep their children in school amid rising education costs.

He noted that many parents are forced to choose which child to support, leaving others behind.

Other community members expressed optimism that such a programme could reduce school dropout rates, increase secondary and tertiary education completion, and motivate learners to work harder.

Opio urged other political aspirants to prioritize practical and sustainable interventions that address the community’s real challenges.

He emphasised that investment in education can help tackle issues such as unemployment, early marriage, and poverty.

As the 2026 elections approach, Aloyotoo’s promise adds to a growing list of campaign commitments centred on education, youth empowerment, and social transformation.

Voters say they will be closely assessing each candidate’s track record, manifesto, and actionable plans to address local issues—especially in education and youth empowerment.

Aloyotoo Agnes, contesting on the JEEMA party ticket, faces stiff competition from several other candidates in the Lamwo County parliamentary race.

The contenders include Nyeko Johnson Kezikia; Akullu Grace Regina, the direct-elected MP aspirant; Oketayot Thomas (Independent); Okongo Morgan Joel (Independent); Anywar George (DP); Odokolit John Bosco (Independent); and Ochen Kanto (Independent).
