3,675 candidates sat the PLE in Alebtong district

Alebtong district says 3,675 candidates sat the just concluded Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) without any reported cases of examination malpractice.

Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Geoffrey Okiswa said on Wednesday that the national examination, which involved candidates across Uganda, concluded smoothly in Alebtong.

The district has 67 government-aided primary schools and 4 private primary schools. RDC Okiswa praised the cooperation among pupils, parents, and teachers throughout the examination period, noting that this collaboration contributed to the incident-free administration of exams.

Despite logistical challenges caused by heavy rains and flooding, all candidates were able to sit for their examinations. At Ogogong Primary School in Aloi sub-county, 17 candidates were relocated to Anara Primary School due to flooding.

At Adoma Primary School in Apala sub-county, where access roads were impassable to vehicles, examination materials were successfully delivered via motorcycle for 116 candidates.

The RDC issued a strong appeal to parents to prevent early child marriage, emphasising that Ugandan law prohibits marriage for anyone under 18 years. “Any parent whose child gets married will be arrested, along with the parents of the boy,” Okiswa warned.

He noted that while child marriage rates have historically been high in Alebtong, community awareness efforts are showing positive results.

Okiswa also encouraged parents to enrol their children in vocational training programs while awaiting next year’s examination results, and urged children to respect their parents during the long holiday period.

His message extended to Senior Four candidates who have recently completed their examinations, emphasizing the importance of continued education and responsible behavior.
