Police in the North Kyoga Region (Lango) are alert and up to the task after intelligence revealed that UPC party supporters are planning a riot.

In a statement to the press on Monday September 29, 2025, North Kyoga Regional Police PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said intelligence reports indicate planned riots on September 29, 2025 by some identified supporters of the UPC party.

The riots, SP Okema said, are planned to start in Lira City and will later spread to other districts within the North Kyoga region.

“This is in line with Jimmy Michael James Akena NOT appearing on the ballots for the presidential race. The collection point for supporters to gather is at the home of the party president, which is located in Senior Quarters in Lira City,” SP Okema added.

“As police and other security organs, we have not received any formal notifications to the Office of the Inspector General of Police nor a reply to that effect; it’s therefore a very illegal intention.

“We would like to inform the people of Lango that the North Kyoga region is very peaceful, and anyone who wishes to disrupt the peace will be dealt with as the law may require.”

“We therefore appeal to all law-abiding citizens to be cautious by respecting the rule of law and reporting to the nearest police station any person with such intentions for arrest and prosecution before a court of law after a thorough investigation is conducted.”

According to the PRO, all their territorial commands are guided to act accordingly.

By press time, relevant UPC officials could not be reached for comments.
