On Wednesday September 24, 2025, the Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi duly nominated Nathan Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to run for president in 2026 general elections.

Mafabi, 59, becomes the fourth candidate to be nominated after incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Elton Joseph Mabirizi, and Robert Kasibante.

Mabirizi is holding the flag of the Conservative Party while Kasibante carries for the National Peasants Party.

In his speech shortly after nomination which Justice Byabakama termed “met all the legal requirements,” Mafabi made a promise to fix the economy because people are poor.

He disputed candidate Museveni’s assurance that Uganda’s GDP has doubled, saying “these are just numbers which can be disputed.

“84 per cent of Ugandans are dependent on only 24 per cent. People are poor,” he said. The cooperatives, Nandala said, once revived will fix the economy.

He promises to put money into the pockets of the villagers if elected. The money, he said, will be recovered from the shs10 trillion lost to corruption every year.

On why he’s the best fit for the President, the FDC presidential candidate said he’s a worker, a servant you can rely on.

Mafabi is one of the longest-serving MPs representing the people of Budadiri West. He’s campaigning on the slogan “Fixing the Economy, Money in Our Pockets.”
