Police in Jinja have clarified that air conditioning units at CPS Jinja Central were serviced and remain in proper working condition, dismissing reports circulating on social media that the units had been stolen.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Police PRO for Kiira Region, SP James Mubi, explained that the exercise carried out on Monday, September 15, was part of regular servicing and maintenance of the AC system.

“The technical team on Monday, September 15 conducted its regular servicing on the AC units at CPS Jinja Central. The purpose of the exercise is to enhance the performance of the CCTV cameras by ensuring reliable footage capture, proper airflow and temperature regulation,” the statement read.

Mubi noted that the servicing was routine and meant to ensure that the system continues to provide the right environment for the CCTV cameras to operate effectively.

However, on Tuesday, September 16, false and misleading information began to circulate on social media alleging that the AC unit at the station had been stolen. The police dismissed the reports and urged members of the public to disregard the misinformation.

“The public is hereby informed that the false and misleading information should be disregarded; the record has been set straight,” Mubi emphasised.

He further pointed out that the ICT technical team was responsible for the servicing, and that the exercise was successfully completed without any incident.

“Yesterday, we had regular AC servicing or maintenance. So the social media propagandists took it upon themselves to spread wrong and misleading information that the AC unit at CPS Jinja Central was taken or stolen,” Mubi clarified.

He reiterated that the equipment remained intact. “The AC unit at CPS Jinja Central was serviced yesterday and everything is in proper working condition,” he stated.

Police underscored that the exercise was purely technical and necessary for the smooth functioning of the security systems at the station.
