Tanga Collins, an aspirant for the position of chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League at the national level, has called on youth leaders in Lamwo district to work together as a united front if they are to achieve meaningful progress and development in their communities.

Speaking during a youth league engagement held at Tripple O Hotel on Thursday July 31, 2025, in Padibe town council, Collins emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and visionary leadership among young people, particularly those in leadership positions within the party structures.

“We cannot talk about development, empowerment, or a better future for the youth if we are divided. We must speak with one voice, support each other, and work together towards shared goals,” he stated.

When asked what inspired him to contest for the position, Collins responded that his personal journey of grassroots mobilization and exposure to the challenges faced by youth across Uganda gave him a burning desire to be a voice for young people within the NRM.

“I have seen firsthand the struggles of jobless graduates, vulnerable youths in rural areas, and the disconnect between youth voices and decision-making bodies. I want to be a bridge that connects youthful energy with national leadership and opportunity.”

Tanga explained that his vision is to build a vibrant, organized, and economically empowered youth under the NRM umbrella youth who are not only beneficiaries but also active contributors to the party’s agenda and Uganda’s development.

Outlining his action plan, Tanga pledged to introduce skills training hubs in sub-counties, expand access to government youth programs like the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and support local entrepreneurs with startup capital and business incubation.

I will advocate for special consideration for vulnerable groups, school dropouts, teenage mothers, and those struggling with addiction by establishing community mentorship and rehabilitation programs,” he said.

To promote youth participation in leadership, he plans to lobby for more representation at district and sub-county levels and conduct regular civic education drives to prepare the youth for public service.

On transparency, he vowed to lead with integrity, promising to publish quarterly reports on youth league activities and funds to ensure openness.

“Leadership is about service and accountability. We must lead by example, involve the youth in planning, and be answerable to them,” Tanga noted.

He also emphasized the need for the youth league to take a frontline role in monitoring government service delivery, especially in education, health, and roads, areas where young people often suffer the most due to inefficiency and corruption.

Regarding internal conflicts, Collins advocated for open dialogue, peer mediation forums, and disciplinary structures within the youth league to handle disputes fairly and promptly.

A call to action

Collins’ message was warmly received by local youth leaders, Bosco Mwaka who pledged to mobilize support, promote unity, and actively participate in the upcoming elections.

Patricia Adoch, another youth said, “This is the kind of leadership we have been waiting for visionary, inclusive, and action-oriented.”

Tanga’s visit to Lamwo is part of his wider mobilization tour across northern Uganda as he prepares for the forthcoming NRM Youth League elections on August 22, 2025, at Nambole in Kampala.
