Jane Frances Acilo says Oyam will become a district for job creators

Joint campaigns for nominated NRM candidates in Oyam district have intensified ahead of the primary elections on July 17.

On Monday, July 7, candidates competing for flags of district woman MP, Oyam North MP and Oyam district LC5 were in Aleka and Otwal sub-counties, pitching their agenda and manifestos to supporters and potential voters.

While some spoke with emotion, others spoke calmly and were able to share their most important agenda uninterrupted.

Jane Frances Acilo is among those whose speeches have not been interrupted since the joint campaign began on July 4. She is competing for the woman MP flag alongside Ajok Bless Otim, Apili Susan Oketch, and Anyango Stella.

While in Aleka, Acilo said: “I am happy because I am home. I come from a family that knows leadership.”

She added that her vision for Oyam district is on wealth-creation. “Why?” “Because I have seen that the people of Oyam live in poverty.

“I am committed to wealth creation, better education program. I’ll empower women and youth.”

Speaking about agriculture, she promised to do more, revealing that: “I just sampled it with maize seed distribution, and I will look for a better market for the farmers of Oyam.”

About education, she stated: “I want our children of Oyam to come back home after their graduation and create jobs at home. They should not be job seekers.”

Women are labouring with a lot of problems, she said, promising to “empower them” including boy children. For long, boys have been left out, something she said she’s going to address once elected.

Joint campaigns get emotional

Since last week, candidates for the LC5 flag, particularly Dila Benson Oyuku, the incumbent LC5 chairperson of Oyam, and Patrick Ogwal Ojok, a former councillor for Kamdini sub-county on Oyam district council, have shared more than just their emotions.

These two candidates have brought together their supporters to “shout and call each other with bad names” as they stand to speak. Last week in Myene, Dila was shouted at as he spoke, in what he later blamed it on “some politicians”. He would publicly declare he has the capacity to revenge.

In what appeared to be a complete revenge, Ogwal Ojok was “shouted at and his speech interrupted for good minutes” in Aleka.

Surprisingly, in Otwal, Dila’s home area where he began “his senior politics” as a LC3 chairperson, was aggressively welcomed. His speech was interrupted as he acknowledged not doing “a lot in four years” as the district boss.

Dila said he needed the NRM flag so he’s able to tussle it out with candidates from the other political parties in 2026. According to him, those competing with him for the flag, including sober and speaker of issue-based agenda, Oyite Emmanuel, are incapable of managing the district affairs.

A section of the crowds disagreed with Dila, with some saying “Leave it to the young blood.”

“He has been in politics but nothing seems too much to show. If you listen to Oyite (Emmanuel), you see a real leader and someone with a vision. I think we need him,” James Ocen, who said he’s from Otwal, said.

Akao Molly Opio, from Otwal sub-county thinks Dila will go independent if he loses the primary election next month.

“He is trying to convince us, and everyone participating in electing new leaders in the general elections. I’ll vote for a right candidate,” Akao stated.

“At the moment, Acilo is my preferred candidate among the ladies. She speaks with action and Oyam women need her.”
