Lamwo | In a significant boost to education infrastructure, Padibe town council, with funding and support from KfW Development Bank, has procured over 1,000 sitter desks for four government-aided primary schools within the town council.
The desks will directly benefit students at Padibe Boys Primary School, Padibe Girls Primary School, Padibe Primary School, and Child Care Primary School. The initiative aims to improve the learning environment by addressing the shortage of furniture in public schools, which has long affected the quality of education in the region.
In an interview, the town council chairperson, Obalim Richard Omo, praised the partnership with KfW, emphasizing its long-term impact on education in the area.
“This support comes at a crucial time. Many of our pupils have been sitting on the floor or sharing limited furniture, which has hindered their learning experience. With these desks, we expect improved classroom discipline, comfort, and performance,” Omo said.
The representative from KfW, highlighted the importance of investing in basic education as a foundation for long-term development.
“Quality education starts with a proper learning environment. We are proud to collaborate with Padibe Town Council in ensuring that children have the tools they need to succeed. This is part of our broader commitment to strengthening Uganda’s education sector,” KfW noted.
School administrators also expressed gratitude, noting that the donation will greatly ease overcrowding in classrooms and reduce the burden on both teachers and pupils.
The Lamwo district secretary for Education and community-based service, stated:
“This intervention is timely and very impactful. Some of our pupils were sharing desks meant for two people among four or five. The new desks will restore order and dignity in our classrooms.”
Parents and community leaders commended the effort, calling for continued support in areas such as teacher housing, learning materials, and sanitation facilities.
The town council plans to monitor the usage and maintenance of the desks across all four schools to ensure sustainability and accountability.
