Why Tanzania’s former President Kikwete has endorsed Jane Frances Acilo for Oyam DWMP in 2026

Jane Frances Acilo

Jane Frances Acilo officially announced her candidacy for the Woman Member of Parliament seat in Oyam district on Wednesday.

This announcement was made on the sideline of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSA) in Munyonyo, Kampala, an event she participated in.

Jane had a significant meeting with H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, a former Tanzanian President and prominent advocate for African agriculture.

Their conversations, as tndNews understands, “were in-depth” and centered on Africa’s sustainable development and smallholder farming prospects.

Jane promised her commitment to these crucial areas.

Former President Kikwete, who pioneered the Kilimo Kwanza and SAGCOT programs in Tanzania, said the key to good politics is being close to the people and building strong networks.

He further endorsed Hon. Jane by signing her campaign poster, symbolizing the growing support for her vision and leadership.

She is running on a platform focused on transformation through agriculture and inclusive leadership. Her core priorities include:

Smart farming technologies and agro-innovation

•Youth and women economic empowerment in agribusiness

 •Sustainable development and food security

•Transparent, people-first governance

She firmly believes that Oyam’s future lies in innovation, unity, and self-reliance and is determined to guide the district toward this promising future.

“I am committed to building a prosperous, inclusive, food-secure Oyam,” she said.

“Together, we can shape a future where agriculture creates opportunities for every household,” she added on the sideline of the ARFSA summit with President Kikwete.

With strong regional support and a proven track record in leadership within agribusiness and technology, Frances is determined to lead Oyam district toward a brighter, sustainable future.

Ahead of this year’s NRM party primary elections, she has launched a variety of people-centered programs throughout Oyam.

Among her numerous initiatives, the “core” for household independence is commercial agriculture, where she distributes improved maize seeds.

At least 16 sub-counties including town councils across Oyam are to be supported with 15,000 kilograms of Naseco maize seeds.
