Lango schools urged to embrace healthy competition

Lango

The emphasis on healthy competition among different schools in the Lango sub-region dominated the thanksgiving prayer and awarding of the top performing 2024 UACE students at Wisdom High School in Akalo town council, Kole.

Wisdom High School became Lango’s best performing school, ranking 25th nationally. Six of her students received a maximum of 20 points, with many scoring 19 points.

Moses Andrew Awany, president of the Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA) and chairperson LC5 of Kole, called for healthy competition among Lango schools during an event held at the school on March 22, 2015.

He stated that the competition promotes better education in the sub-region.

According to Awany, the days of schools not collaborating to shape and guide learning processes, which resulted in strikes like those in Lango, are over.

Students from “school A would organize and attack school B” in Lango, Awany said.

During the ceremony, administrators from other schools were in attendance, which the ULGA president appreciated and encouraged schools to emulate.

Moris Odung Omara, Senior Education Officer of the Dokolo district, spoke on behalf of the school’s board of governors and encouraged Lango schools to collaborate.

Odung says it gives room to identify and handle challenges affecting education hence possible solutions are identified.

He did, however, warn students who are now preparing to attend various universities to trust and believe in God as the source of wisdom throughout their academic careers.

Meanwhile, Ambrose Ogwal, Wisdom High School’s Executive Director, attributed the good performance to positive relationships with other schools.

He stated that, while most schools and governments make significant efforts to teach sciences, Wisdom High School believes that God has uniquely gifted each learner.

Ogwal added that the same effort is being made to teach arts students as well.

“At Wisdom, it is not about business but ensuring equitable education for all students with consideration from those coming from poor families,” he said.
