Details of Amolatar’s tragic road crash victim emerge

A 15-year-old girl was killed in a tragic road crash on Wednesday, March 5, in the evening.

Akello Brenda, who was known for her kindness and willingness to help others, was reportedly on her way to deliver food to a patient at the local health center when the incident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, she was struck by a speeding water tanker owned by the Ministry of Works and Transport infront of Amolatar senior secondary school.

The driver, identified only as Afrigo, was behind the wheel.

Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.

Brenda lived with her cousin, Geoffrey Ocen Kiring, the LC5 chairperson of Amolatar district.

Her family, from Abwong parish in Arwotceck sub-county, said she was well-liked in the community.

Friends and family describe her as a vibrant young girl who aspired to make a positive difference in her community.

Local leaders and residents have expressed their outrage and sorrow over her tragic death.

Calls for increased road safety measures near schools are being issued, emphasizing the importance of driver vigilance, particularly in areas frequented by learners.

This tragic death serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that young people face on a daily basis, as well as the ongoing need for greater accountability in terms of road safety.

The Minister of Works and Transport Gen Katumba Wamala has announced that speed limit in urban areas has been reduced from 50kph to 30kph.

The limit for expressways and highways, however, remains at 100kph.

Uganda is the leader in road crashes in East Africa, with daily fatalities standing at 14 people.
