In a significant political development, over 968 members of the Apac Municipality UPC party structures have backed Maruzi MP Patrick Maxwell Ebong Akora.
The endorsement follows Akora’s decision to run for the Apac Municipality MP seat in the upcoming 2026 general election.
This decision was made during a consultative meeting last week at Akora’s residence in Apac Municipality, where he met with party leaders from four different divisions.
The UPC party structures in Akere, Agulu, Atik, and Aroca Divisions have all agreed to support Akora.
Ogang Christopher, the Atik Division UPC Chairperson, confirmed the endorsement and stated that the decision was made after extensive consultations with party members.
“Many party structures met with MP Akora, and the members recommended that he should contest for the Apac Municipality seat. As the chairperson, I am ready to welcome any other candidates who wish to compete with Akora and Ocan in the primaries. My prayer is that the primaries will be free and fair,” Ogang stated.

Robson Ebong, the UPC Chairperson for Arocha Division, who attended the meeting, shared similar sentiments. He emphasized that party members had unanimously agreed to support Hon. Akora’s candidacy in both the primaries and the general election.
“The members have agreed that MP Akora must contest in the municipality, and we are fully behind him,” Ebong said.
Jasper Orec, Chairperson of the Agulu Division, confirmed the endorsement, stating that his members had agreed that Hon. Akora should run for the Apac Municipality seat in the 2026 elections.
“Our members have spoken, and they want Akora to represent them in the municipality,” Orec added.
Addressing journalists at his home in Apac Municipality on Sunday, Akora expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and reiterated his commitment to contesting for the seat.
“I will contest for the Apac Municipality seat, and I am confident that I will win both the UPC primaries and the main election,” he declared.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to encourage UPC party members to join the Party’s official register. Akora emphasized the importance of having a party card to participate in the upcoming elections.
“This meeting was to alert the UPC party structures to register their names in the party book. To vote, you must have a Party card, and you must be a known member of the Party as we await the Party’s roadmap,” he explained.
MP Akora’s decision to shift his focus from Maruzi County to Apac Municipality has been met with widespread support from various sectors, including the local community, business leaders, and members of UPC grassroots structures.
Some believe his growing popularity and strong support from UPC Party structures indicate that he will be a formidable candidate in the 2026 election.
