Todwong tells university student leaders to seek advice from seniors

Entebbe |More than 700 student leaders from various universities around the country are receiving patriotism training at Nkumba University in Entebbe.

The leaders are members of the guild cabinets. Speaking to them on Sunday, the ruling party’s Secretary General, Richard Todwong, urged them to be closer to senior leaders.

“I implore you always to seek advice and guidance from the senior leaders if you are to be groomed into responsible leaders in future,” he said.

To avoid making mistakes, Todwong emphasized the importance of young people seeking guidance and mentorship before engaging in active politics after school.

He challenged the students to draw inspiration from President Yoweri Museveni’s conduct, citing how he (Museveni) handles the country’s affairs.

“Approach politics and leadership with honesty and patience to avoid mistakes,” he emphasised, advising them never to follow anyone who preaches politics of sectarianism and tribal differences.

“Once you hear of a leader preaching sectarianism, tribalism, religious lines, that one is not a leader,” he said.

He continued, “Be yourself, seek serious mentorship, and build yourself so that you have the capacity to handle the hardships faced by your community; that is the only way you will be able to make an impact in your areas of origin.”

Universities represented include Makerere, Kyambogo, Uganda Martyr’s Mukono; All Saints (ASUL), Nkumba, Lira; Muni, and Gulu, among others.
