The 47th US president Donald Trump has ordered “pauses” to all work done by USAID, Devex has exclusively reported.
It further reports that U.S. foreign assistance programs funded by the State Department and USAID will be paused immediately following a memo sent today by Peter Marocco, director of the Office of Foreign Assistance at the State Department and approved by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Specifically, the order “pauses all new obligations of funding, pending a review, for foreign assistance programs funded by or through the Department and USAID.”
It adds: “For existing foreign assistance awards, contracting officers and grant officers shall immediately issue stop-work orders, consistent with the terms of the relevant award, until such time as the Secretary shall determine, following a review.”
Since taking office on January 20, Trump has made a number of changes, and signed dozens of executive orders.
