Political tensions in Agago have risen sharply after another NRM cadre and veteran military officer, Jimmy Akasa Mokili, announced his aspiration for the Agago West MP seat in 2026.
Akasa told tndNews that he has officially entered politics, running for Member of Parliament on the NRM ticket. His entry appears to have prompted many aspirants in the constituency to scramble in an attempt to secure their political futures ahead of 2026.
Akasa, a retired military officer, fought against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) between 2000 and 2009.
He is quickly gaining traction in Agago district’s sub-counties of Arum, Lira Palwo, Lamiya, Geregere, and Agengo. These are the areas where he was frequently seen during the fights against the LRA.
In a recent interview with tndNews, Akasa stated that Agago West is a small constituency that requires a leader of integrity to foster its growth.
Widely known in his rural home as “Mokili Mobimba,” he cited Isaiah 6:8 to frame his political ambitions, calling them “a divine calling to serve” from 2026 to 2031.
He underscored the importance of quality education, scholarship opportunities, and equitable development in service delivery across all sub-counties.
Mego Saltin from Lira Palwo sub-county expressed her support for Akasa, claiming that he is the best candidate because of his clear agenda for improving health facilities and increasing the recruitment and deployment of healthcare workers.
Geoffrey Oryema of Obolokome Agengo, lamented the poor state of the constituency’s roads, including the dilapidated bridges that connect Agengo to Beliko and Acuru, among other places.

Paul Komakech of Geregere sub-county expressed her joy at meeting someone who embodies a strong faith in God, believing Akasa would bring a transformative leadership style to Uganda’s 12th Parliament.l
Nelson Okello who ives in Arum sub-county, Agago West. He stated that the community is looking for someone with a certain level of experience and, more importantly, who can work with NRM leadership to address the pressing need.
Peter Okot of Lamiyo sub-county believes that Akasa can advocate for culverts and work on the bridge that connects Omot to the Kazikazi areas, including the “Wicomp” stream in the Arum subcounty.
Milly Olobo, an LC1 chairperson in Lamiyo sub-county, chastised unnamed leaders in Agago for deliberately ignoring voters’ phone calls despite being contacted about urgent community issues.
Agago West is currently represented by MP Anywar Ricky Richard (NRM), while several aspirants, including those from other political parties such as the UPC and FDC, are actively canvassing voters in their bid for the same position.
