Lira | Information Technology (IT) students from Uganda are benefiting from the Common Market for East and South Africa trade partnership.
Angura James, one of Dr. Obote College’s IT teachers, confirmed that in 2017, the school represented Africa in a global innovation program in the United Kingdom.
The teacher was pleased that the school ranked 71 out of 200 countries that participated.
Angura added that participating allowed them to share ideas, problems, and solutions.
Similarly, Emmanuel Angoda, a teacher who heads Information Technology at Lira Town College, confirmed that the school has received seven awards.
Angoda stated that some of their innovations are selling like hotcakes both within and outside of Uganda.
According to Angoda, one of the innovations was recognised by Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) in 2014.
The Walk Track application was created to assist visually impaired people in avoiding potholes, stones, and other roadside hazards.
He (Angoda) also stated that students have distributed the application, which is being sold to visually impaired people in and outside of Uganda.
“COMESA has also assisted students studying information technology at our school in developing an application and selling their products in and outside markets,” he added.
