Oyam I Following the closure of Karuma Bridge for renovation, water transport became one of the options for travelers heading to the Lango and Acholi sub-regions from Kampala and the western part of the country.
Passengers who take the Eastern route, such as Jinja-Pallisa to Kumi-Soroti to Lira and Gulu, must be prepared to spend extremely long hours on the road.
In an effort to facilitate safe and speedy arrivals, Navigator Nile Transport has now opened a route from Panymede Okweche B in Kiryandongo district to Te-Tochi (Kamdini) via Amaji Primary School to Kamdini town.
This route opened last month with four engine boats, each of which can accommodate 60 passengers and operates 24 hours a day.
According to Francis Okecha, manager of Navigator Nile Transport, the company provides full services. They also have vehicles that transport passengers from Gulu City to Kamdini town and from Kampala to Mutunda.

“We have a restaurant, a good compound, and passenger shelters, as well as a standby boat in case of an emergency,” he told tndNews.
Currently, each passenger pays shs3000 for a boat crossing through the River Nile, while those with luggage pay shs5,000.

In a related development, water transport is thriving at the Atura landing site in Atura parish, Aber sub-county, Oyam district.
This fiscal year, Aber sub-county opened a new revenue collection point at the Atura landing site.
Atura landing site has 14 boats that operate every day. Other businesses, such as small-scale restaurants, serve the growing population, which includes travelers.
While commissioning the Karuma power station, President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta promised the community that his government would bring a ferry to the Atura landing site for transportation.
This promise has yet to come.
The distance from the Atura landing site to Kiryandongo across the River Nile is approximately four kilometers.
