Thousands of young people in Dokolo district have already benefited from BRAC Seeds Uganda’s five-year strategic plan.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, over 35 district youths attended a training session focusing on the four-acre farming model.

BRAC Seeds Uganda sponsored this training, which was held at the district headquarters, as part of its commitment to providing young farmers with seeds to help alleviate poverty.

Judith Legico Sofi, BRAC Social Enterprises Uganda’s partnership officer, encouraged participants to put their training skills to use and share them with their peers.

Legico emphasized the importance of focusing on agriculture as a means of overcoming poverty.

“We conducted this training with many of our agents to assess end-of-season outcomes alongside our agricultural promoters,” she stated after the training.

“BRAC Seeds Uganda expresses its gratitude to the farming community in Dokolo district for their loyalty and enthusiasm in cultivating crops such as maize, sorghum, and various vegetables, which are instrumental in improving their livelihoods.”

Jasper Odyek, the BRAC District Coordinator in Dokolo, praised BRAC for its initiative to reach and empower over 5,000 youths through agricultural projects.

“Since joining BRAC Seeds, my life has changed, and I encourage my peers to value farming and avoid the traps of idleness,” Odyek stated.

In agriculture, he added, “We can achieve great wealth by scaling our crop production from small to larger operations.”

Steward Owiny Emmanuel, from Okwongodul sub-county and chairperson of ‘Oturo Rao Vat A’ under the Light Youth Farmers Group, thanked BRAC for providing them with F1 champion maize seeds.
