Gulu |Major General Francis Takirwa, Deputy Commander Land Force, has emphasised that soldiers must maintain discipline, patience, and commitment throughout their military service.

He emphasised that a soldier’s discipline is the foundation for developing positive attitudes and behaviours, not only among peers but also in interactions with superiors and the larger community.

Maj Gen Takirwa was speaking at the passing out ceremony for troops who had completed a three-month refresher course at the 4 Infantry Division Training School in Palaro sub-county, Gulu district.

“I am happy with your field performance and drills that you have exhibited during the pass out. I am impressed and satisfied that the skills attained shall be put to good use during the execution of your duties,” he said.

He urged the soldiers to practise financial discipline, emphasising that increasing their savings and shares in the UPDF’s Wazalendo SACCO will result in significant benefits, such as higher dividends and tangible profits.

Brigadier General Felix Busizoori, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division, praised the soldiers for their exceptional discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance during training.

He encouraged them to use the skills they had learnt in their future roles.

He also advised them to prepare for retirement by practising financial discipline, living a healthy lifestyle, and staying physically fit.

He also warned them about the risks of excessive social media use and alcohol consumption.

Opio Christopher Ateker, LC5 chairman of Gulu district expressed his gratitude to the UPDF for their cooperation and harmonious relationship with the local community.

He promised to help extend essential amenities, such as electricity and water, to the training facility and school.

Major Justin Olupot Malinga, Acting Commandant of the training school, stated that the soldiers were equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ideology required to command and lead troops in any situation.

He told the 4 Infantry Division leadership how much the training school and the Palaro community had been helped by their invaluable leadership and unwavering support during the field exercises.
