Apac | On Wednesday, Yosam Odur Ebii, the Paramount Chief of Lango (Won Nyaci), witnessed the swearing-in of the newly appointed electoral commission members.

The commission members will oversee the election of Lango’s new Won Nyaci on November 1, 2024.

They were sworn in following the election of Laury Lawrence Ocen (PhD) as Lango Cultural Foundation assembly speaker and Dickens Wacio as deputy speaker.

Shortly after their election, deputy speaker Wacio presided over a special council meeting in Teboke, Chegere sub-county, Apac district.

In his speech, Won Nyaci Yosam stated that his role as a leader is not to segregate because a leader should not take sides.

“I am now appealing to the people of Lango because my term is coming to an end, and I want the election to be free and fair for the new Won Nyaci. I am now urging the younger generation to show respect for senior citizens at all times.

Anthony Olobo, Odur Ebii’s son and Atek Omwonpel clan leader, stated that there is time for everything, and that leaders come and go.

“I want the public to understand that respect for the elders is paramount.”

The Lango Cultural Foundation’s Prime Minister, James Robert Ajal, stated that as a legitimate cultural body, they are proceeding with the process of electing the new Lango Paramount Chief.

He stated that people aged 18 and up will be allowed to vote.

Emmanuel Egaro, the senior counsel (Lawyer) of the Lango Cultural Foundation, used his authority to swear in the commission’s five members.

The electoral commission consists of Col. Rtd Dan Opito Odwee (chairperson), Denis Okwir Jaramogi (vice), and Tonny Ongor (secretary). Others who are members include Molly Akello and Charles Opio.

Col. Opito spoke to the media after taking the oath. Appreciating the appointment, he pledged to take the necessary action.

“We are now following the road map for those aged 18 and up.”

Since the Lango Cultural Foundation is abiding by the law, I will support them through this battle until they prevail. So, I now support this team,” counsel Egaro stated.
