Jinja | Huda Abason Oleru Huda, Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs closed the Retirement Sensitisation and Documentation Exercise for Senior Officers in Batch 14 on Thursday.
The event was held at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy (NCOA) in Jinja, where she emphasised the importance of preparing retirees for their new life outside the military, allowing them to reintegrate and resettle successfully.
Huda thanked officers for their sacrifices and contributions to regional peace and security, particularly the pacification of the Great Lakes region, Horn of Africa, and other areas.
She assured them that the ministry is working to provide skills training during retirement, which will help with their resettlement and reintegration into civilian life.
The minister also stated that the government is committed to ensuring their well-being through initiatives such as food and feeding programs, legal aid clinics, and medical referrals.
She also urged retirees to support the Commander-in-Chief’s socioeconomic transformation efforts and use their trust and experience to become role models.
She advised retirees to maintain their leadership and discipline in order to contribute to community development.
Brigadier General Isaac Biryabarema, Director of Pension, Gratuity, and Compensation, who represented the Chief of Defence Forces, thanked the retirees for their sacrifices and promised them continued support.
He advised them to approach retirement with optimism, discipline, and avoid hasty investments.
Brigadier General (Rtd) Emmanuel Musinguzi, Director of Veteran Affairs, advised retirees to be mindful of their gratuity and health, while encouraging them to participate in social-economic activities and take pride in their retirement.
