Abim | In a bold raid, two guns were taken by alleged Karamojong warriors as they crept into the army barracks in Alerek sub-county.

The incident happened at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, when some soldiers went to the trading centre for refreshments.

According to Owona Emmanuel, the LC3 Chairperson of Alerek sub-county, the theft was discovered when the soldiers returned to the barracks.

“It is very unfortunate that some soldiers had gone to the Okemer gold mine at the time of the incident,” he said, adding, “We have been seeing Karamojong warriors roaming around Alerek every evening, and we suspect they are responsible for this incident.”

Favourite Rugumayo, Public Information Officer of 5 Division, confirmed the theft of the guns and assured that all efforts are being made to recover them.

“We are working closely with local authorities to investigate the incident and recover the stolen weapons,” Rugumayo stated on Thursday.

The Information Officer, however, did not disclose that the guns were stolen by the Karamojong warriors.

The incident has raised concerns about the security of the barracks and the potential for violence in the region.

Now, the community is calling for increased security measures to prevent future breaches and ensure their safety.
