Joy as Lira City’s MP Dr. Aceng drills more boreholes

Lira | After noticing borehole drilling machines nearby on June 17, 2024, residents of Atira Cell in Ongura Ward, Lira City, rejoiced.

Residents applaud Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, their Lira City woman MP, for considering them and ensuring they have safe and clean water.

They also stated that the development will address the acute water crisis that has existed for a long time.

For years, these communities have shared water sources with animals and birds.

Jimmy Aloko is the LC1 chairperson for Atira Cell. He praised MP Dr. Aceng for the latest development.

“The arrival of the water drilling machine is a blessing.” “We used to compete with livestock for water access,” he explained.

Dr. Aceng, who is also the national health minister, has provided clean water sources to the people of Lira City on previous occasions.

In April 2024, boreholes were drilled in Ongura ‘B’, Iwal, Lira City. Atira, Abongoden, Wilela, and Barjwinya in Iwal were also scheduled to be covered.

Each borehole costs shs25 million.

Residents of Atira Cell have pledged their unwavering support for Dr. Jane ahead of 2026, describing her as a committed and available leader.

Zena Opolot, Dr. Aceng’s political assistant, said her boss is committed to keeping her and the NRM’s campaign promises.

She expressed confidence that all of her commitments would be met by the end of her 2021-2026 political term, and that she would continue to do so beyond 2026.

Otucu Bonny is the Assistant RCC for Lira City. He stated that the project is meeting the community’s needs, noting that water scarcity has been a pressing issue.

Since Dr. Jane took on the political mandate, we have seen remarkable progress in rehabilitating and drilling boreholes throughout Lira City, according to the Commissioner.

Under WASH, Dr. Aceng has prioritised boreholes, particularly for residents in areas where NWSC connections have yet to be established.

Women and girls are disproportionately affected by a lack of water, often walking long distances to get it. This is what has been happening in areas where Dr. Aceng has decided to intervene.
